At Pigment, we understand how important colors are. We love our Pigment colors and understand our users love their company colors. This article discusses how to create a custom palette for your workspace, where you can use the palette and the roadmap for the feature.

What is a custom Color Palette?

Color is a powerful way to draw attention to data points, whether in a grid or on a chart. Custom Color Palette allows you to set a custom theme of eight different colors to be used throughout your Pigment workspace.

Because it is a workspace level setting, users must have be the Primary Owner, Security Admin or Workspace Admin to adjust the palette.

How do you set the Color Palette?

From the workspace level, you’ll notice a Formatting link in the bottom left of the Sidebar. To be able to adjust the Color Palette, you must be have Workspace Admin, Security Admin or Primary Owner account types.  Click on the Formatting link to see the current Palette, then click Edit palette. From here, you can edit colors by entering a Hexadecimal (Hex) code and custom name.  Hex Codes need to be 6 digits, you can name the colors however you’d like.  Hit Save after you have placed your codes and names in.

When updating the colors, the order will have an impact in how they are used in charts. The top color will be the color applied to the first item within a chart and will go down the line.

Once your palette is set and in use, if you update a color, the updated color will replace all instances that the original color is used.

Not sure where to find Hex codes?

You can always search Color Picker with Google to be able to adjust the spectrum to pick out the correct color.  You’ll notice the Hex codes are listed.

Where can you use these new colors?

Grids

Your new palette can be used in formatting cells, backgrounds and headers.  It can also be used for conditional formatting.

Warning

This is another place workspace admins can edit the color palette. It’s important to remember these changes will take place across the entire workspace. Also any updates to a color will be update everywhere that color is used.

Charts

You can apply your color palette to your charts by selecting it in the Color theme. The custom color palette will have the same name as your workspace.

When applying the custom palette as the color theme, the order that the colors were entered will determine the color of the items.  The top item in the chart will take on the top color, they colors will reset every eight items.

Road Map

We have a few other features we are working on to help you visualize your data. One of them is the ability to assign a specific color to an item in a chart.  This would allow you to select specific items and choose their color. Currently, the color of the items is determined by its order.

We are also working on the ability to define the color of chips. Chips are used when you have a cell with a data type of a dimension.  This feature would allow you to pick the color of each chip.
