What is Application history?

When building and interacting with an Application, the events are tracked and stored in the Applications’ history section.  These events are available to Members with the View History permission and be be viewed and filtered at different levels.

Permission

Members must have the View History permission to be able to access an applications history.

Where can I see the Application History?

There are different areas that you can view the history.  It depends on the granularity you wish to review.  To review the history of all events for the entire application, click on the History button located in the Sidebar.  If you don’t see the history icon from within an application, you might not have the View History Permission.

Once you open the History page, you will see a section called updates, this is where all events are tracked.  There is a Time, Member, Block and Actions filter available.

The Time filter is set to Past 6 months by default, with options for Past day, Past week, Past Month, and the ability to create a custom range to see history from any dates.

The Members filter allows for selection of one or more Members to view all the changes that were made by that individual.

There is a Blocks filtering option to view individual block history.  The last filter is called the Actions filter, events are categized into different types, Edit, Formula, Import, Delete Item, and Block settings.

Note: From this page, users can access the history of deleted Blocks.

How to read an update?

There are a few columns for that explain more information around each update.  The Time column shows you when the event happened.  The User column shows which Member made the update.  Under the object section of an update, you can see the type of block that was updated and the name of the option.  There is an Action section to show you which type of action was performed.

The last section is called Value, this section will show you the old value and the new value.  For example, if a formula change is made, you can see what the old formula was and also the new formula.  This means can track all the different changes of a formula.  This is also possible with inputs, allowing to see what old inputs were and the new one.

What types of Actions are tracked?

There are different types of Actions that are tracked.

Edits

All manual inputs on Lists and Metrics are tracked as an "Edit" Action. This includes adding a new item.

On Lists, hover over the update to check which Property and which item was edited (to identify the item, the current "Default Display property" of the item is displayed). If the item of the list has been deleted, no identifier is displayed.

On Metrics, hover over the update to see precisely on which modalities of the Dimensions the update has been made.

Formula updates

All Formula changes are tracked as a "Formula Update" action.  You can filter to just view all formula updates.  Click View Changes to see the old and new formula when it was updated.

Click on "View changes" to see the old formula and the formula that replaced it.  This gives you the ability to track the history of changes made to a particular formula.   You can also see who performed the formula change.

If some Blocks used in the formula have been renamed after the formula update, the Update History will display an updated version (current version) of the formula with the new Block names. Click on "Show original version" to display the formula exactly as it was when it was updated.

Click on the image to expand the view

Note

If some Blocks used in the formula are now deleted, the updated version might not be available. In this case, only the "original version" is available.

Import

All CSV imports on Lists and Metrics are tracked as an "Import" Action.  Here you can see the Number items or values that were inserted, updated or skipped.  You can also access Import Summary files, however these are only available for 90 days.

If the Automatically add new items to dependent Dimensions option is enabled on the import, some dependent Dimensions ( = used by the List/Metric on which the import has been made) might have been impacted by the import. Those changes are flagged by the "Dependent Import" action.

Import Summary files are available for 90 days after the import has been run.

Block Creation & Deletion

Dimension lists, Transactions Lists, and Metrics are listed as a Block Created action when they are created and Block Deleted when they are deleted.  Currently, Table creation and deletion is not supported.

List item deletion

All item deletions on Lists and Metrics are tracked as a "Delete" Action.

Block Settings

All Block (Lists and Metrics) changes are tracked as a "Block settings" Action.

For Lists , you can see when a list is renamed, created, deleted, or shared.  You can also see when Special properties are updated, created or deleted, as well as when a property is updated, such as a new type, name, or if the “is unique” field was updated.

For Metrics, you can see when the Metric is renamed, created, deleted, or shared.  Metric updates such as Dimension changes, enabling of overwrites, and data type updates are also tracked.

Automation Settings

Creation, deletion and edits that are made to Automations are store in this area.  If you want to see the history of when an Automation was triggered, this is stored in the Automations section, along with errors related to Automations.

In all of these updates, the Member who updated is stored, as well as the time.

On List and Metrics, the update history of the Block is available from the Block updates icon on the top-right (near the Block settings). This panel displays all "updates" which have been recorded for that specific Block.
Use the Controller on top of the panel to filter events by Date, User and Action.

Item specific view

To view the specific history of an individual item, right-click on the item and select View item history.  This will open up a panel that is pre filtered to show the history of that individual item.  This option is available within the List or directly from the Board.

Warning

The access right system is not applied to the Update History. For this reason, Pigment recommends granting Update History access users who can access data from the entire App.
