Dimension List

In short, a Dimension List is an axis of analysis for your data.

If you picture your Google Sheet and you say "I want to analyze my business volume by month, by country and by product type", the Dimensions Lists to create are "Month" "Country" and "Product Type".

Each item of this list is unique.

  • List of countries your company operates in

  • List of product categories

  • List of employees

Transactions List

List of items that do not necessarily have unicity.

It usually represents a list of events or transactions that need be transformed or grouped for analysis.

  • List of orders

  • List of accounting entries

  • Human resource ledger

Metric

An indicator of what you want to measure.

It is used to store data according to a set of Dimensions.

Metrics can be inputted or calculated using formulas based on other Metrics and/or List Properties.

  • Quantity sold

  • Revenue

  • Conversion rate

  • Commission Rate

  • EBITDA

  • FTEs

Table

Logic group of multiple Metrics that may be analysed and compared together.

It is composed of one or more Metrics.

Metrics in a Table may not have the same Dimension but should share at least one common Dimension to make sense.

  • P&L

  • Cash Flow Statement

  • Balance Sheet
